Michele Dillon is professor of sociology at the University of New Hampshire. Her research focuses on religion, politics, and culture, changes and continuities in religion and spirituality over the course of life, and ommunity culture, economic development, and change. Her publications include In the Course of a Lifetime: Tracing Religious Belief, Practice, and Change (with Paul Wink; University of California Press, 2007), rated by Choice as “outstanding”; Catholic Identity: Balancing Reason, Faith, and Power (Cambridge University Press, 1999), Debating Divorce: Moral Conflict in Ireland (University Press of Kentucky, 1993), Handbook of the Sociology of Religion (editor; Cambridge University Press, 2003), and over forty research articles and book chapters.
Michele is past chair of the American Sociological Association section for the sociology of religion and president-elect of the Association for the Sociology of Religion. At the Carsey Institute, she is a faculty research consultant in the Research Development Working Group, and she has coauthored a research brief with Sarah Savage on values and religion in rural america. As a senior fellow at Carsey, Michele will be involved in research on quality-of-life issues and religion, politics, and civic commitment in rural communities.
