Women and work

Low income women struggle to support their families and manage the balance of work and family, and direct care workers are a good example of women who are poorly paid and rarely have opportunities to move up in their jobs. As part of the Institute’s interest in working women, faculty and staff have developed research capacity and expertise in the area of the Direct Care Workforce and the Aging Population. Their analyses will provide a better understanding of who direct care workers are and of factors affecting the high turnover in this sector compared to other low wage and skill, predominantly female, industries.

In addition to our research on direct caregivers, Carsey researchers examine the economic status of working women in New Hampshire and New England. The Carsey Institute publishes national and regional reports on working women and analyses women, family and work in rural America in the new global economy.
