John Halstead is professor of environmental economics and chair of the Department of Resource Economics and Development at the University of New Hampshire. Professor Halstead’s principal areas of interest and research are environmental economics and rural economic development, particularly non-market valuation, invasive and endangered species, waste management, and infrastructure’s effects on economic development. Currently, he is pursuing research efforts which focus on sustainable economic development and the valuation of ecosystem services.
Halstead is author of two books, 30 refereed journal articles, nine book chapters, and over 200 other miscellaneous publications and papers in the areas of economic development and environmental economics. He earned his doctorate at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Agricultural and Applied Economics, an MS from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, in Resource Economics, and his AB in economics from the University of Notre Dame.
