SEEKING APPLICANTS FOR
THE 2006 – 07 PARTNERSHIP FOR
EFFECTIVE NON-PROFITS FELLOWSHIP
Applications due April 21, 2006
The Partnership for Effective Non-Profits Fellowship is a partnership between the University of New Hampshire’s Carsey Institute and the Partnership for Effective Nonprofits (a joint initiative of the United Way of the Greater Seacoast, the Piscataqua Region of New Hampshire Charitable Foundation, Fuller Foundation, and the Foundation for Seacoast Health)
What is the Partnership for Effective Non-Profits Fellowship?
This academic year fellowship provides an outstanding upper class UNH student with the opportunity to actively participate in the New Hampshire Seacoast community and learn about the work of nonprofit organizations, while gaining valuable experience in newswriting and reporting. The recipient of this award receives a stipend of $600, plus $100 towards expenses, each semester.
The student fellow is expected to participate in a minimum of 5 hours per week per semester in a writing internship and to attend at least one meeting each semester to provide the Partnership for Effective Nonprofits funders with an overview and evaluation of the experience. The fellow will work from the United Way office at Pease Tradeport in Portsmouth and will write articles on issues relating to the work of area nonprofit organizations. The fellow’s articles will be published in local seacoast newspapers.
The funders established this fellowship in the fall of 2004 to help educate the Seacoast community about the work of the non-profit sector. Their goals are to highlight the importance of the sector’s influence on quality of life in the Seacoast and to help area residents better understand the work of nonprofits and the challenges faced.
What is the reward?
My experience as a Fellow has been overwhelmingly positive. In writing biweekly articles for The Portsmouth Herald, I’ve had the opportunity to put my three years of newswriting training into practice. I’m satisfied by my ability to meld my passion for social justice activism with writing.
- Meghann McCluskey, 2005 – 06 PEN Fellow

- The opportunity to publish several articles or columns in a newspaper
- The honor of being awarded a fellowship (great for resume)
