Policy Research

The Carsey Institute studies trends affecting rural areas and small towns, as well as immigration and small cities. The Carsey Institute provides information and analysis on these issues in the United States, and also examines social and economic changes regionally in New England and New Hampshire.

Within these broad fields of interest, the Institute has on-going policy research programs in three general areas: Poverty, Community and Environment; Women and Work; and Children and Youth. Each program has several projects, listed at right, that have been supported by national and regional foundations and donors.

The Institute’s independent, interdisciplinary research provides timely, in-depth information and analysis to policymakers, practitioners, the media and the general public. Through this work, the Carsey Institute contributes to public dialogue on policies and programs that encourage social mobility, strengthen the middle class, and sustain healthy, equitable communities.
