Outreach and Engagement Director

At the Carsey Institute, Mica Stark leads Carsey Institute initiatives designed to build working relationships with scholars, community leaders, and policy makers, on campus and across the nation. Starting in July, he will be extending Carsey resources and research programs through the creation of a nationally recognized center for immigration and urban studies that focuses on small city issues.

Mica is also leading a new research program on the role of arts, culture and heritage in community economic development. In addition, he will work with the UNH Provost's office to lead and support UNH's role in a national network of multidisciplinary scholars, campus leaders, and civic leaders with the mission to improve public life and advance deliberative democracy in and through higher education across the country.

In March 2008, Mica was named to NH Governor Lynch's task force for the retention and recruitment of a young workforce for New Hampshire. During the 2008 NH Primary season, Mica managed four presidential debates at Saint Anselm College.  Previously, he was the managing director at the New Hampshire Institute of Politics where he developed and led numerous civic engagement initiatives. Mica has worked with several nonprofits, including City Year New Hampshire, where he was the founding board co-chair. He currently serves as vice president of the Piscataquog Land Conservancy (PLC), a regional land trust west of Manchester. In 2005, The Union Leader named Mica one of  New Hampshire's "40 Under Forty." He earned his M.A. in political theory from Michigan State University and graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of New Hampshire.  Mica is a ninth-generation NH native and lives in New Boston with his family.
