Karen Van gundy , Ph.D.

Karen Van Gundy is a medical sociologist at the University of New Hampshire. Her current research investigates the mechanisms by which life circumstances and social statuses influence variations in health, emotional, and behavioral outcomes. She has published articles in Social Psychology Quarterly, Sociological Forum, the Journal of Health and Social Behavior, Substance Use and Misuse, and the Journal of Criminal Justice examining the effects of stress, gender, race/ethnicity, and/or psychosocial resources on outcomes such as depression, anxiety, alcohol use, gang involvement, and crime. Dr. Van Gundy is also interested in life course patterns of health and well-being and has published on the role and significance of social, personal, and physical resources for age-related variations in depression, empathy, and introspectiveness. She received her Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Miami in 2001.
